Prior to moving to Wayne County in 2001, Micah spent nine years in the Marine Corps on active duty and was also a Veterinary Technician. In 2009 he became a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff Department and was recently elected as the Wayne County Sheriff. During his time as a deputy, he patrolled with his K9 officer Doc, and assisted with numerous animal welfare cases.
